Mel and Nic canoed across the Tasman in the late hours of the twentieth century, using their guitars as paddles and singing to the stars. And so...'sistermadly' was born !.

After carving a niche in the Australian music scene as songwriters and performers, the girls signed a deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing in Sydney, where they took up residence.

As a result, their debut EP 'Zephyrtown', engineered and co-produced by Wayne Connelly (You Am I, Youth Group, The Vines, Josh Pyke) was released on Rubber Records in 1999.

Australian film and television productions sourced 'Zephyrtown’s' rich musical content to feature in the films 'Occasional Course Language' and 'Looking for Alibrandi'. Their songs featured on Australian TV Networks, Nine, Seven and The ABC.

'sistermadly' toured within Australia and New Zealand, sharing bills with Wendy Matthews, Dave Dobbyn, Deborah Conway, Air Supply and Mental As Anything.

Locally, 'sistermadly' shared stages with a variety of Sydney artists including Iota, Carla Werner, Jackie Orzaczky, Tania Bowra, Floyd Vincent and the Childbrides, Stella One Eleven and Jon Cleary and the Monster Gentlemen (New Orleans).

Mel says :“We've been playing together for 15 years or more! We met in New Zealand and before relocating to Sydney Australia, we played briefly together in a band called Mango I had formed with my sister.

We were based in the South Island ski resort of Queenstown, New Zealand. Nicci a farm girl then, worked as a sheep shearer, shearing up to 200 merinos a day!

She lived way up in the high country and used to come in to town every so often and blow people away with her singing.

I was poached by a band over here in Sydney and Nic decided she'd had enough of farming for a bit and duly joined me a few months later.

It took us a while to get off the ground but before too long we were writing, recording and seeking to further our musical careers”.

The new album 'Naked' is a beautifully polished 11 track release with cool chord changes and blossoming melodies.

Despite their busy lives, (Mel, a young Mum to identical twins and a tertiary music teacher; Nic, splitting time between the Sydney music scene and study at Canterbury Uni NZ), the girls of 'sistermadly' have an amazing, tight knit bond that resonates through their music.

sistermadly’s original compositions are fascinating explorations of feeling and mood.

Nicci has a way of singing that drives her message straight to your soul and Melanie’s voice is plaintive, pure, lazy and warm yet together they blend and entwine.

It’s quite divine.

I cried at the beginning and I got goosebumps at the end. Can’t ask for a better response than that.”
